This year’s parade and service, marking the 70th anniversary of the outbreak of war in 1939 was distinguished
by the recognition of the grave of Alroy Ashley as an official Commonwealth War Graves Commission grave.
Two children of Wrington VC Primary School laid a spray of poppies immediately after the wreath of the
Wrington branch, Royal British Legion, was placed on the war memorial. This was witnessed by a relative of
Able Seaman Ashley, his cousin Jane Smith (née Ashley).
