Mothering Sunday church hug On Mothering Sunday the congregation come out of the church, join hands, and hug ‘Mother Church’. Back inside posies made by members of the Mothers’ Union are distributed, first to children to give to their mothers, then to adults for their mothers or, perhaps, to lay on their mothers’ graves, and finally they may be given to any woman present.
