Phil Parker & Roger Owen - 2nd cycle ride October 2013 Website homepage Organisations index page Twinning homepage Committee Constitution Wrington website Wrington Twinning Association
Well we made it. 720kms to Bordeaux, slightly sore at times on the interface between man and machine but otherwise all good. Missed the rain. Remarkably the two days of steady rain were when we were on rest days in the launderette etc. Otherwise weather fantastic. Heads down for the winter now. Thanks for those contributions received. If you feel an uncontrollable urge to add to the pot please feel free to do so. It is never too late! We then proceeded by train to VLB via Toulouse. We had dinner with Edgar and Ingrid Papp in Les Enfants Terrible. They were both well. We were well looked after again by Hans and Christine at Las Cigalas. And overall we had an excellent couple of days including being the only two swimmers in the Med at Valras Plage. It was 24°C and sunny so why not ?! We cannot help noticing that in France they look at the calendar to determine that the season has ended rather than looking outside and noticing the weather ! At least we complied with the national stereotype as two years ago we were told that there were two reasons for people swimming in October: 1. They are stupide.  2. They are English. (There is of course the third reason...a combination of reason 1 and reason 2..!) The market at Serignan was on Monday which is unusual, but definitely worth a trip. We had a good look around Serignan and also Sauvian which are both very pretty villages and worth taking time to walk around. Serignan appears to be much busier and bigger than VLB whilst maintaining the historic character of a small town of the area. Both of course are very close to VLB. The well marked cycle route to the Med is short and a very pleasant off-main road flat approx 10 km ride through the vines. It is marked by small blue arrows on the surface. Once you understand these marks it is easy to follow. 2 years ago we got hopelessly lost, as we did not know the system ! [Hopefully, photos will be added on their return - Ed]
