I THINK WE WILL MEASURE THAT!Did you know! The oldest lawn bowls site still played on is in Southampton. Records show that the green has been in operation since 1299 A.D.Whilst there are other claims of greens being in use before that time, these are unsubstantiated by proper or sufficient documentation.During the reign of Richard II bowls were referred to as “gettre de pere” or “jetter de pierre,” and describes throwing a stone, probably as round as possible. In the early 15th century bowls were made of hardwoods and then after the 16th centurydiscovery of Santo Domingo, of lignum vitae, a very dense wood.Season UnderwayOur ladies continued their League fixtures with a home win against Fosseway. For the men, the season started poorly with losses against Ashcombe and Wedmore but winning ways have been restored with a victory against Congresbury. Both our teams have league fixtures and cup competitions throughout the coming month so if you wish to come along and support just contact one of the Club members for details.Players NeededAs always we are always looking for new members. Many of you will have attended our open days and we know that several of you really enjoyed trying our sport. Why not contact us to arrange a further taster session or come along and watch one of the league or friendly games.A final thought! If at first you don’t succeed, try one of the following:-(1) Blame your Bowls(2) Blame someone else(3) Seek coachingAndy and Wendy Tandy01934 863684
