Match Report
Wrington-Redhill 1 Portishead Reserves 22
Thursday, 10th May
Newly promoted Wrington–Redhill entertained Portishead Reserves in re-arranged fixture last night. The game was played at
Clevedon Town’s Hand Stadium, and Wrington-Redhill FC would like to express their sincere thanks to owner Mark Lewis and
General Manager Lynette Powell for their help and support last night and throughout the whole season - we are very, very
grateful .
Portishead opened the scoring after only 2 mins when sluggish reaction to a loose ball saw the ball driven home from 20 yards .
This seemed to spark Wrington into life and from then on dominated the first half with Graham Cheeseman a whisker away from
scoring with a far post header from a corner by the ever impressive Craig Burchill .
Neil Andow was again thwarted by the Portishead keeper turning a goal-bound effort onto the post The home side side created
countless opportunities but were unable to make one count.
In the second half, after 15mins Portishead scored after a goalmouth melee with the homeside furious for an alleged handball
offence. The introduction of pacy youngster Tom Johnson for the injured Cheeseman unsettled Portsihead ,with the Wrington
man being man handled in the area whilst cutting through on goal. The resulting penalty was put away on 75mins by Neil Andow
for his 32nd goal of the campaign. A highly charged last 20mins saw Portishead narrowly miss ,only for Wrington to duplicate
this at the other end. A highly competitive game ending 2-1 to Portishead.

End of Season Presentation Evening
Friday 4th May
Wrington-Redhill FC held its end of season presentation evening, when
over 80 players, guests, sponsors and Vice Presidents were treated to a
sumptuous buffet created by Lucie Howells, ably assisted by husband Pete
.. we are eternally grateful.
The main event of the evening - the award ceremony saw Trevor Cleeves
receive the Arthur Clements cup for Clubman of the Year, richly deserved
for all the time and care that Trevor has put into the care of the pitch.
1st team manager Alan Smith’s Player of the Year was given to Callum
Fisher and 1st team players’ Player of the Year was Neil Andow - who
also scooped the golden boot award for top goal scorer amassing 31 goals
so far.
The Supporters Club Player of the Year went to the ever popular
Graham Cheeseman. Reserve team manager Julian Moss awarded his
Player of the Year to young Chris Giles. Players’ Player of the Year given to Mick Edmunds .
Particular thanks must go to Steve Andow in all aspects of his help and support, and not just running the line. A huge thank-you
from the Club as whole to our fantastic St Trinians who from 11.30 am that morning were setting up and turning the building into
something very special, their hostessing skills and pure hard work making sure that everything that needed to be done was done
.
Our thanks once again as all season go to Mike and Hester who worked tirelessly on the evening making sure throats did not
become too dry ! . The evening was rounded off with the wonderful “RedhillBillies “ playing live for the gathering.
A successful evening , a successful year with promotion gained into League 1 and the Reserves in the final of the Keyes cup at
Cheddar FC on 15th May. The 1st team play their last fixture v. Portishead Reserves on Thursday 10th May at the Hand

Wrington–Redhill FC Promotion to Division 1
Wrington–Redhill’s home fixture v. Portishead Reserves fell foul to the weather on Tuesday evening, 1st May, with the fixture
being postponed. That meant they could still find themselves promoted if 3rd place Banwell didn’t win at Ashton & Backwell on
the same night.
A 1–1 draw was the final result there which means that Wrington–Redhill cannot finish any lower than 2nd position - which
therefore guarantees promotion.
A point gained from the final re-arranged fixture v. Portishead Reserves (tba) will see the village club crowned as champions..
Manager Alan Smith and Assistant Lee Probert deserve huge praise indeed for this achievement and the all round quality of
football witnessed by the large crowds at the Rec this season.
The annual presentation evening takes place this Friday 4th May at the Rec’ .. a night to remember !
